Happy Halloween!

My Opinions About My Halloween Movie Picks
Fun to Scary!
The movie “Lady In White” is without a doubt my favorite Halloween movie. “Lady In White” is a very well written movie, well acted, with beautiful staging and photography. I truly love the introduction of the author (in the story), Frankie Scarlatti, arriving at his hometown in the autumn, with the leaves falling and blowing in the breeze, and Frankie starting to recall his family, his life, his childhood visits from the young ghost of Melissa, and Frankie’s own near death ordeal, it gives me chills just thinking about it.
“Halloween” is a classic that is a must for Halloween. Jamie Lee Curtis will live forever as a young teenage babysitter in that movie. The ultimate scary movie.
I don’t believe to my mind that there has ever been a better werewolf movie made than “Silver Bullet”. It reminds me a lot of “Lady In White” with the author (in the story) recounting events from her childhood, events that are too scary to want to remember, but too real to forget. Gary Busey plays the fun loving uncle who must find his serious side if they are to survive the werewolf.
“Hocus Pocus” is a fun romp, a little scary, a little funny, but mostly just good fair without all of the blood and gore of most horror movies. The song “I Put A Spell On You” with Bette Midler, is a great treat. The movie might have been made for kids, but it is also great fun for us adults. For those of you who love NCIS, you will find a very young Sean Murray as Thackery (and Binx the Black Cat).
As a Sandra Bullock fan, “Practical Magic” is indeed one of my favorite Halloween movies. It’s a great story, with fine acting and a good story line. The cast is great with: Nicole Kidman, Stockard Channing, Dianne Wiest, and from the TV show “Elementary “, Aidan Quinn as, who else, but a policeman.
Ever since “E.T.” hit the big screen back in the 80’s, it has been a big time favorite of mine for Halloween. Who can ever forget “ET phone home”.
“Casper” is an all-round fun Halloween treat. Christina Ricci is very cute as a young girl who moves into an old haunted house with her father, and finds Casper and a funny trio of ghosts already “live” in the house.
Each year while I prepare our Halloween treat dinner of pizza, and before our feature Halloween presentation movie, we watch “The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad”. Two animated movies “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” with the voice of Bing Crosby, and “The Wind in the Willows” narrated by Basil Rathbone. This classic tale of Sleepy Hollow is something not to be missed (Washington Irving’s story). The older version on VHS was called “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” and it had a classic Donald Duck, Halloween cartoon with it, but the new version has the Mr. Toad story.
A Halloween must is, of course, “It’s The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown”. A fun animation movie that I continue to enjoy.
The movie “The Haunting” (the original with Julie Harris) is, to me, one of the scariest movies ever made. Perhaps some people don’t think it measures up with today’s slasher movies, but as I said, I don’t care for that type of movie anyway. “The Haunting” is like an Alfred Hitchcock movie, deep, physiological, and engrossing. This movie goes back to 1963, and I remember as a child this one scared the heck out of me.
I hope you enjoy these Halloween movies as much as I do. Happy Halloween!

More Halloween Movies
More of my favs of Horror, Occult, and Sci-Fi for additional scary Halloween viewing.
A real classic for me is “Something Wicked This Way Comes”. The movie is a bit confusing and off-beat, but I love it anyway. The idea of the autumn people coming to town is, I have to say, a bit scary. Jason Robards is a true star in this character role.
